Tarsem Singh condemns UAPA charges against son MP Amritpal Singh
Chandigarh: Tarsem Singh, Member of Parliament from Khadoor Sahib and father of ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief Amritpal Singh, has criticized the imposition of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) on his son, currently lodged in Assam’s Dibrugarh jail.
He termed the move a “conspiracy” to prevent his family from launching a new political party during the upcoming Maghi festival.
“With the National Security Act (NSA) against Amritpal Singh set to expire, they have now invoked UAPA. This is an attempt to block us from announcing our political plans,” Tarsem Singh alleged, adding that the actions lacked evidence or proper investigation.
He accused Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of displaying an “anti-Sikh mentality.”
Earlier, Faridkot SP Jasmeet Singh confirmed that UAPA charges were filed against Amritpal Singh in connection with the Gurpreet Hari Nau murder case. Designated terrorist Arsh Dalla has also been named in the case.
“The investigation is ongoing, so detailed information cannot be disclosed,” the SP said.
Tarsem Singh, who plans to announce a new political party during the Maghi Mela, claimed the charges against his son were politically motivated, citing “political fear” as the driving force behind the allegations.
