Samyukta Kisan Morcha calls for unity among farmer unions

Moga: The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) has announced efforts to foster unity among farmer unions protesting at the Khanauri and Shambhu borders.

A six-member coordination committee will visit both sites on January 10 to appeal for solidarity. Additionally, the SKM has decided to refrain from making statements against SKM (non-political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) over the ongoing farmers’ struggle.

At a Kisan Mahapanchayat held in Moga, SKM leaders criticized the Central government for ignoring the fast-unto-death protest by farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal.

They urged the government to initiate dialogue with the protesting farmers and expressed concerns over the draft National Policy on Agricultural Marketing, describing it as a reintroduction of the repealed farm laws.

The first mahapanchayat on January 4 in Tohana saw SKM leaders condemning the Punjab government for failing to convene an Assembly session to scrap the draft policy.

Key leaders, including Balbir Singh Rajewal, Joginder Singh Ugrahan, Rakesh Tikait, Dr. Darshan Pal, and Raminder Patiala, addressed the gathering.

During the mahapanchayat, SKM passed a resolution, Ekta Mata, emphasizing the need for unity. Leaders also highlighted the importance of expanding the farmers’ struggle beyond Punjab to states like Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
