Excise and Taxation Department Launches GST Registration Drive to Boost Compliance
Mohali News: The Excise and Taxation Department of Punjab has embarked on a month-long GST Registration Drive, aimed at ensuring that all dealers liable for Goods and Services Tax (GST) registration are brought under the tax framework. Effective from January 10 to February 10, 2025, the initiative is a proactive effort to enhance compliance, broaden the tax base, and facilitate seamless integration of businesses into the GST system. With a special focus on the service sector, the department is working to identify unregistered dealers and assist them in completing their GST registration to avoid penalties and ensure smooth operations.
On the inaugural day of the drive, officials from the Mohali district visited 85 dealers across the region, successfully initiating the GST registration process for 24 of them. The department is determined to maintain this momentum throughout the campaign by engaging with dealers and offering them the necessary support to comply with GST regulations. Speaking on the significance of the drive, Munish Nayyar, Asstt. Commissioner, Mohali, said, “This initiative is a crucial step towards ensuring compliance with GST laws and simplifying the registration process for dealers. Our focus is not only on enforcement but also on extending guidance and assistance to businesses, enabling them to seamlessly transition into the GST framework.”
The Excise and Taxation Department has urged all unregistered dealers who are liable under GST to come forward and complete their registration during the drive. By addressing awareness, compliance, and assistance, the initiative aims to streamline the process and minimize disruptions for businesses.
