Jalandhar gets new mayor, read
Jalandhar: The Jalandhar Municipal Corporation (JMC) elected Vaneet Dhir of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as its seventh mayor on Saturday.
Balbir Bittu and Malkit Subhana were chosen as senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor, respectively.
The JMC comprises 85 councillors, with AAP now holding 45 seats, two above the majority mark. In the municipal corporation elections held on December 21, 2024, AAP initially secured 38 seats.
Subsequent support from Congress, BJP defectors, and independent councillors increased its tally to 45.
The mayoral election took place at the Red Cross Bhawan, where Dhir was elected unanimously.
