Punjab suspends four officials over Faridkot financial scam

Chandigarh: The Punjab government has suspended four senior officials in connection with a financial scam in the Faridkot Water Supply and Sanitation Department.

The officials, Executive Engineer Jaswinder Singh, Sub-Divisional Officer Sandeep Singh, Junior Engineer Parvinder Singh, and Senior Assistant Tara Singh, were suspended with immediate effect.

The suspension follows allegations that the officials misused funds allocated for maintenance, causing financial losses to the exchequer by approving illegal payments through fake bills. An inquiry into the matter was conducted by the supervising engineer of Hoshiarpur.

Based on the inquiry report, Principal Secretary Neelkanth S Awhad issued suspension orders under Rule 4 of the Punjab Civil Services (Punishment and Appeal) Rules, 1970.

During the suspension period, Jaswinder Singh and Sandeep Singh have been reassigned to the office of Chief Engineer (South) in Patiala, while Parvinder Singh and Tara Singh will report to the office of Chief Engineer (Central).
