SGPC protests against Kangana Ranaut’s film ‘Emergency’
Amritsar: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) staged protests at multiple locations, including cinema halls in Amritsar, Bathinda, Jalandhar, and Ludhiana, demanding a ban on the screening of BJP MP and Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut’s film Emergency.
Led by SGPC officials, employees, and members, demonstrators gathered outside cinemas in shopping malls this morning. Protesters outside the PVR cinema near the Amritsar bus stand carried banners, placards, and black flags.
SGPC Secretary Partap Singh revealed that a letter was sent to the Punjab Chief Minister yesterday urging a halt to the film’s screening. Similar letters were also forwarded through Deputy Commissioners in various districts.
Singh claimed that the film misrepresents Sikh history, an issue previously raised with the Censor Board and the Government of India.
Protests were held outside prominent locations like PVR Cinema, Trilium Mall, and Alpha Mall in Amritsar. The SGPC reiterated its demand for the film’s screening to be banned across Punjab.
