After MLA Gogi’s death, wife actives in politics; begins campaigning in Ludhiana West
Ludhiana: Gurpreet Bassi Gogi, MLA from the West constituency, succumbed to bullet injuries on January 10 while reportedly cleaning a pistol.
The tragic incident occurred at his residence in Ludhiana. Following his death, the Election Commission has declared the West assembly seat vacant, necessitating a by-election within six months.
Now, Gogi’s family has actively engaged with the community in the aftermath of his demise.
On Gogi’s official Facebook page, images of his wife, Dr. Sukhchain Kaur Bassi, meeting residents and addressing their concerns were shared. The post stated, “Meeting people at home and listening to important issues and problems.”
This activity has sparked renewed political interest in the constituency. Sources from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) suggest that the family’s outreach efforts have the endorsement of the state high command.
Dr. Sukhchain Kaur Bassi, a former councillor, had previously contested elections but faced defeat. Political observers believe the family may attract sympathy votes in the upcoming by-election, given Gogi’s strong connection with the constituency.
