SGPC objects to parole granted to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Ram Rahim

Amritsar: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has strongly criticized the government for granting parole to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who is serving a prison sentence for murder and rape.

SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami called the decision a reflection of the government’s double standards.

Dhami accused the government of prioritizing political gains by repeatedly granting furlough and parole to Ram Rahim, while ignoring Sikh prisoners who have spent over three decades in jail despite completing their sentences.

He highlighted the Supreme Court’s directive to the government to decide on the remission of Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana’s sentence, saying it has not been acted upon.

The SGPC president alleged that the BJP government previously granted Ram Rahim furlough and parole during elections, disregarding his heinous crimes.

He claimed the current parole aims to influence the Delhi Assembly and municipal elections in Haryana, which he deemed unjust and detrimental to the Sikh community.

Dhami demanded the immediate cancellation of Ram Rahim’s parole and his return to jail.
