Priyanka Gandhi defends Sonia Gandhi over remarks on President Murmu, accuses media of distortion

New Delhi: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday defended her mother, former party president Sonia Gandhi, amid controversy over her remarks on President Droupadi Murmu’s address.

She accused the media of distorting Sonia Gandhi’s statement and called the BJP’s demand for an apology unjustified.

Speaking outside Parliament, Priyanka Gandhi said, “My mother has great respect for President Murmu. She only remarked that ‘the President must have been tired of reading such a long speech.’ It is unfortunate that the statement is being misinterpreted.”

She also criticized the BJP, stating, “They should first apologise for destroying the country.” Priyanka emphasized that both Sonia Gandhi and President Murmu are respected figures and that there was no intention to disrespect anyone.
