Voting begins in Delhi, Leaders urge voters to turn out in large numbers

New Delhi: Polling for all 70 seats in the Delhi Assembly elections began at 7 am today and will continue until 6 pm. Over 1.5 crore voters are expected to cast their ballots, deciding the fate of 699 candidates. The results will be announced on Saturday, February 8.

The election is seen as a direct contest between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), while the Congress is also aiming to regain its presence. Voting is taking place across 13,766 polling stations.

Key issues in this election include pollution in the Yamuna, corruption, and poor road conditions. A win for AAP would secure its third consecutive term in power, while BJP and Congress seek to make a comeback. The BJP has been out of power in Delhi for over 25 years, while Congress last governed the capital in 2013.

Leaders urge voters to turn out in large numbers

Former AAP deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia visited a temple in Delhi ahead of voting. He urged people to vote for a party that can provide quality education, employment, and lower electricity bills.

Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit, contesting from the New Delhi Assembly seat, said voters are remembering the leadership that built modern Delhi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also encouraged voter participation. In a post on X, he called the elections a “festival of democracy” and urged people to cast their votes enthusiastically. He also extended special greetings to first-time voters, saying, “First voting, then refreshments!”
