Fake DSP extorts Rs 15 lakh from immigration agent in Mohali

Chandigarh: Kharar police have registered a case against five individuals for allegedly extorting Rs 15 lakh from an immigration agent in Mohali by posing as a DSP.

The incident occurred on the evening of February 1 when Sham Lal Sharma, a resident of Morinda who runs an immigration company, was lured to a pet shop by his friend Jasvir Singh Gill, alias Raja.

Sharma, accompanied by his friend Sandeep Kumar, arrived at the location in a Fortuner, where Raja and his wife were waiting.

Soon after, five men arrived, one of whom was dressed in a police uniform and carrying a pistol. They handcuffed Sharma, forced him into his own car, and took him to a hotel.

There, one of the accused introduced himself as a DSP from the Jalandhar Crime Branch and accused Sharma of facilitating the illegal migration of gangsters.

The fake DSP initially demanded Rs 30 lakh to avoid arrest. Raja, allegedly part of the conspiracy, pressured Sharma to arrange the money. After negotiations, the amount was reduced to Rs 15 lakh.

Sharma then contacted his brother Lakhi and asked him to arrange Rs 10 lakh, proposing the sale of gold. The fake DSP, Raja, and another accomplice later went to Sharma’s house in Raja’s vehicle to collect the money.
