SGPC removes Giani Harpreet Singh as Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib

Amritsar: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Monday decided to terminate the services of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the inter-ministerial committee, chaired by SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, which began at 2 pm.

An SGPC spokesperson confirmed the decision, stating that while three opposition members in the committee opposed it, the termination was approved by the majority. The move followed an inquiry by a three-member committee, which submitted its report during the meeting.

Giani Harpreet Singh faced serious allegations from a former relative, who had also submitted a complaint to the SGPC president and Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh.

Based on this complaint, the SGPC’s internal committee launched an investigation, initially granting a 15-day extension and later extending it by another month.

In light of the probe, the SGPC had earlier suspended Giani Harpreet Singh’s services, temporarily assigning his responsibilities to the Head Granthi of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib. Following the inquiry committee’s findings, his termination was formally decided.
