Three AAP councillors join BJP, boosting party’s prospects in Delhi civic body

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) gained momentum in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) after three Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillors joined the party.

The councillors who switched allegiance are Anita Basoya from Andrews Ganj, Dharamveer from RK Puram, and Nikhil from Chhaprana. They were inducted by BJP Delhi president Virendra Sachdeva.

In addition to the councillors, four AAP leaders, including Sandeep Basoya, the former AAP district chief in Delhi, also joined the BJP along with their supporters.

The MCD has a total of 250 councillors. AAP initially secured 121 seats, but three of its councillors won the assembly polls, reducing its tally to 118. The BJP’s gains are expected to impact the power dynamics within the civic body.
