Third batch of Indians deported from US arrives in Amritsar

Amritsar: The third batch of Indians living illegally in the US arrived at Amritsar Airport at 10 pm on Friday. Reports suggest that 112 people were on board the US Air Force’s C-17A Globemaster aircraft.

Immigration officers at the airport are interrogating the deportees, and it is expected to take three to four hours before they are allowed to leave.

On Saturday at 11:30 pm, another American plane landed at Amritsar Airport, carrying 116 Indians. Most were men, but women and children were also present.

Male deportees were reportedly handcuffed and shackled during the flight. They reunited with their families at the airport and were released after about five hours of verification, transported home in police vehicles.

This follows the deportation of 104 Indians on February 5, bringing the total number of illegal immigrants returned from the US to 220.

Reports indicate that, except for children, both men and women were restrained with handcuffs and shackles during their return.

Daljit Singh from Hoshiarpur, one of the deportees, confirmed that they were handcuffed and chained during the flight.

He revealed that he had entered the US using the “Dunki Route.” Meanwhile, cousins Sandeep and Pradeep, who were also deported, have been detained by Patiala Police for questioning in connection with a murder case registered in June 2023.
