Rekha Gupta performs ‘Yamuna Ki Aarti’ after taking charge as Delhi Chief Minister
New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited Vasudev Ghat and performed ‘Yamuna Ki Aarti’ along with her cabinet colleagues soon after formally assuming office at the secretariat.
Pollution in the Yamuna river was a key issue between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the opposition BJP and Congress during the Delhi Assembly elections. Opposition parties had targeted AAP convener and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over the river’s pollution.
Ahead of the first cabinet meeting, Gupta was accompanied by Delhi BJP president Virender Sachdeva and cabinet ministers Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, Ashish Gupta, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravinder Indraj Singh, Kapil Mishra, and Pankaj Kumar Singh as they performed ‘Maa Yamuna Ki Puja’.
Ram Bhajans were chanted at the ghat, with slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and ‘Yamuna Maiya Ki Jai’ being raised.
Earlier in the day, Rekha Gupta, a first-time MLA from Shalimar Bagh, took oath as Chief Minister at the historic Ramlila Maidan, while six MLAs were sworn in as cabinet ministers.
