Son of daily wage workers dies on Dunki route after 9 months of travel, family left devastated
Chandigarh: A 24-year-old man from Derabassi in Mohali district, who was on his way to the US via Dunki, died on the way.
The deceased was identified as Randeep Singh and was a resident of Sheikhpur Kalan village in Derabassi.
The deceased roamed around in different countries for about nine months. However, he is said to have died due to illness in Cambodia.
Ravi, the elder brother of the deceased, said they are three siblings and Randeep was the youngest.
According to the brother, his mascara had struck a deal with the agent for Rs 45 lakh to send him to the US with a stick. Out of which he had given Rs 25 lakh.
According to the deal, he had left home for the US on April 12 last year.
During this time, the US President had issued a warning to expel the immigrants living there illegally.
According to the family, the agent first took him to Vietnam instead of the US, where he stayed for three months. During this time, he got a hair break, due to which his infection increased due to lack of timely treatment.
The agent was being pressured by the family members to send Randeep back.
The agent was offering to send them to Australia or Canada instead of the US, but the family flatly refused and asked them to send the boy back.
But the agent sent him to Cambodia without a passport where he got stuck without a passport and his infection also increased. He died due to lack of treatment there.
The family alleged that the agent had fraudulently taken out their son’s passport. An FIR has also been registered against the agent in the case on the complaint of the family.
