New York-Delhi flight diverted to Rome after bomb threat
New Delhi: An American Airlines flight from New York to Delhi was diverted to Rome on Sunday after a bomb threat was reported on board.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, operating as flight AA 292, had taken off from John F. Kennedy International Airport at 8:15 p.m. on Saturday and was over the Caspian Sea when the crew was alerted to the threat.
Following the warning, the aircraft was immediately diverted to Europe and landed safely at Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino Airport at 5:30 p.m. local time. Security measures were heightened at the airport as authorities investigated the threat.
In a statement, American Airlines confirmed that the flight had to be diverted due to a potential security risk. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
