‘No one understands tea better than a chaiwala’: PM Modi in Assam
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Guwahati on Monday for a two-day visit to Assam. He attended an event organized by the Assam government at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium to mark 200 years of the state’s tea industry and the cultural heritage of the tea tribal community.
More than 8,000 artists participated in the event, where PM Modi lauded their performance, saying it captured the essence of Assam’s tea gardens. “No one can understand the beauty and aroma of tea better than a chaiwala,” he remarked.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and heads of missions from nearly 60 countries also attended the ‘Jhumair Binandini’ event, which showcased Assam’s cultural traditions to a global audience.
PM Modi highlighted the Northeast’s growing global presence, calling himself the region’s “best brand ambassador.” He said, “Today, over 60 ambassadors of different countries will experience the resonance of Assam and take the taste of its tea with them.”
