Maha Kumbh 2025 concludes in Prayagraj with Amrit Snan on Mahashivratri
Prayagraj: The Maha Kumbh 2025, which began on January 13 in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, concluded on February 26 with the Amrit Snan on Mahashivratri. Over the course of 45 days, more than 66 crore devotees visited the city to take a holy dip at the Sangam.
Recognizing the scale of the event, the Uttar Pradesh government had declared the Mahakumbh area a separate district for the duration of the festival. Spread over 4,000 hectares and divided into 25 sectors, extensive arrangements were made to ensure the convenience of pilgrims.
Despite well-planned logistics, the massive influx of devotees led to significant congestion, particularly during the royal baths.
The administration worked to manage traffic jams, with major highways and roads, including those connecting Lucknow, Kanpur, and Rewa, witnessing heavy gridlock. The railway system played a crucial role, with around 15,000 trains ferrying pilgrims to Prayagraj.
The Maha Kumbh also saw a large congregation of saints, seers, and spiritual leaders, with over nine lakh saints and Nagas, along with 10 lakh Kalpvasis, participating in the event. The government made special arrangements for their stay and rituals.
Several unique stories emerged from the Kumbh, capturing public attention. From an IIT graduate leaving his job to embrace ascetic life to international visitors immersing themselves in Indian spirituality, the event showcased diverse experiences. Many babas also gained viral fame, amassing thousands of followers in a short time.
With the conclusion of the Maha Kumbh 2025, devotees have begun returning from Prayagraj, carrying memories of the grand spiritual gathering that unfolded over six weeks.
