Punjab Cabinet approves changes in birth and death registration rules

Chandigarh: The Punjab Cabinet has approved amendments to the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, bringing significant changes to the registration process.

Under the new rules, families will no longer need a court order if a child’s birth is not registered within a year. Instead, the process can be completed through the Deputy Commissioner.

Additionally, doctors will now be required to specify the cause of death in the death certificate if a person dies due to an illness.

Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema shared these updates after the Cabinet meeting.
