Zelensky meets Trump, seeks security assurances for Ukraine

Washington: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with US President Donald Trump at the Oval Office today, urging the US to provide security assurances against a potential future Russian attack.

Zelensky described Russian President Vladimir Putin as a “terrorist” and said Ukraine and the world “need no compromise with the murderer.”

Zelensky did not speak to reporters upon arrival at the White House. Unlike his usual military green T-shirt, he wore a formal black top for the meeting.

The Ukrainian delegation accompanying Zelensky is expected to sign a historic economic agreement with the US aimed at supporting the reconstruction of war-torn Ukraine.

The deal, which is seen as a step toward ending the three-year war, highlights the importance of Ukraine’s security and is expected to strengthen ties between the two countries for years to come.

Following the meeting, Trump said the agreement would soon be signed in the East Room of the White House. “We have something that’s a very fair deal,” he said, calling it a significant commitment from the US.

He added that American financial aid should be used to “rebuild the country” and expressed hope for an end to the ongoing conflict.
