Punjab tehsildars call off strike after suspensions and transfers
Chandigarh: Tehsildars across Punjab, who had been on a statewide strike since Monday by taking mass leave to press for their demands, called off their protest today.
Amid the strike, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann took strict action, suspending several tehsildars and granting special powers to other employees and officers to handle revenue-related registrations.
Additionally, a large number of tehsildars were transferred, with many posted to less favorable locations, while some were shifted to better stations.
Meanwhile, in a WhatsApp group of tehsildars, Punjab Revenue Officers Association state president Lachhman Singh Randhawa informed colleagues that deputy commissioners across Punjab had been urging them to return due to law and order concerns related to ongoing farmers’ protests. Following this, the tehsildars decided not to extend their mass leave.
