Father and son die a day apart in Punjab’s Sangrur, village in mourning

Chandigarh: A family in Churad Kalan village, Sangrur district, was struck by tragedy after a father and son died within a day of each other. A day after the death of Sukhdev Singh, who had been battling cancer, his son Major Singh died of electrocution while making seating arrangements for mourners.

Police arrived at the scene, took possession of Major Singh’s body, and handed it over to the family after a post-mortem examination.

His brother, Jaspal Singh, said that as relatives gathered to mourn their father’s death, Major Singh was arranging seating when he suffered a fatal electric shock.

Major Singh worked as a driver for PRTC, and the family is involved in small-scale farming.

The last rites of both father and son were performed together in the presence of grieving relatives and villagers. The incident has cast a shadow of sorrow over the entire village.
