Blast near temple in Amritsar sparks fear, investigation underway
Amritsar: A blast near a temple in the Khandwala area last night has created an atmosphere of fear and tension. The explosion, allegedly caused by an object hurled at the temple by motorcycle-borne individuals, was captured on CCTV.
The incident occurred on the intervening night of March 14 and 15. CCTV footage showed two men on a motorcycle throwing an object at the temple building, which led to an explosion. The temple priest and his family were on the top floor at the time, but no casualties were reported. However, a wall of the temple was damaged due to the blast.
Senior police officials reached the spot after receiving information, and an investigation has been launched. While there have been explosions outside and inside police buildings in recent times, this is the first such incident at a religious site.
Locals expressed concern, saying the act could disturb communal harmony. The explosion occurred as people in the area and across the country were celebrating Holi, a festival known for fostering unity and joy.
