Kotkapura police demolish houses of five drug peddlers in major crackdown
Chandigarh: Kotkapura police demolished the houses of five alleged drug peddlers in a large-scale operation, marking the state’s biggest bulldozer action in an area notorious for drug trade.
Among the demolished houses, three belonged to women accused of drug smuggling, with multiple cases registered against them.
The operation began around noon on Jalliana Road, led by Faridkot SSP Dr. Pragya Jain, in coordination with municipal council officials. According to the SSP, the municipal council had submitted a written report stating that the houses were built illegally on council-owned land and needed to be removed.
“This action was taken based on the council’s report. Many others have also built houses illegally and are involved in the drug trade. This crackdown will not stop here but will continue in Faridkot, Jaito, and nearby villages,” Jain said.
Residents of the area gathered during the demolition, expressing support for the police and chanting slogans in their favor.
Senior vice-president of the municipal council, Sattantrajot Singh, welcomed the move, stating that the locality had been plagued by crime, including frequent robberies after 7 pm.
He added that no such incidents had occurred in the past 15 days, bringing a sense of relief to the residents.
