Fake travel agents: ED intensifies probe after deportation of Indians from US
New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has intensified its investigation following the deportation of several Indians from the US. On the previous day, the Jalandhar ED interrogated 11 individuals who had returned to India after being deported.
Officials questioned them about their routes to travel abroad. During the interrogation, the names of several fake travel agents linked to Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh emerged.
According to sources, Punjab Police had recently registered cases against multiple travel agents, with some already arrested. However, the ED is aiming to trace the entire network. Officials believe that even if a fake agent is arrested, others may continue the operations.
The agency is now focusing on identifying the main accused, their sub-agents, and the channels leading to these fraudulent agents. Investigators are also questioning sub-agents to dismantle the network completely.
