Punjab designates Hanuman Palace as temporary jail for detained farmers
Chandigarh: The Punjab government has declared Hanuman Palace in Khanauri as a temporary jail, where farmers detained from the Khanauri morcha last night have been lodged. Additional Chief Secretary (Prisons) has designated the facility as a temporary jail from March 19 to March 25.
According to sources, around 250 farmers are currently being held at Hanuman Palace. A total of 325 farmers were detained from Khanauri morcha, but several were later released.
Additionally, over 100 farmers detained from the Shambhu morcha may be shifted to Patiala jail.
The Punjab Police cleared both Shambhu and Khanauri morchas under ‘Operation Highway’ last night. In response, farmers’ organizations have planned a protest against the operation today.
