Traffic fully restored from Amritsar to Delhi via Shambhu border, buses to resume on March 21
Chandigarh: Traffic from Amritsar to Delhi via the Shambhu border was fully restored on Thursday evening. One side of the double road was reopened at 5:45 pm, followed by the other at around 7:45 pm.
With this, traffic has resumed in both directions between Rajpura and Ambala. While all other vehicles are now passing through the route, buses are yet to resume operations and are expected to start running on March 21.
The restoration comes after police dismantled farmer protest sites at the border on Wednesday night following the detention of farmer leaders. Authorities in Punjab and Haryana worked throughout the day to clear road blockades.
The Haryana Police removed heavy restrictions that had been in place for over a year, while Punjab authorities cleared tractor trolleys from the protest site.
Following this, two-wheeler movement was allowed after 4 pm, with four-wheelers and trucks permitted later. Locals have welcomed the reopening, stating that while they support the farmers’ cause, daily travel to Ambala had been affected.
