Bikram Majithia’s security cover downgraded, Punjab Police refutes withdrawal claims

Chandigarh: Rejecting claims that former minister Bikram Singh Majithia’s security cover has been withdrawn, a senior Punjab Police officer on Wednesday said it has only been downgraded.

The clarification came a day after Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Sukhbir Singh Badal alleged that the Punjab government had withdrawn Majithia’s Z-plus security cover.

Special Director General of Police (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla dismissed reports of withdrawal, stating that security is provided based on threat perception.

“A security review committee evaluates it periodically and decides whether to increase or decrease protection,” he said.

Shukla added that Majithia’s security was downgraded following the committee’s latest recommendations, but he continues to have protection, including an escort vehicle and several gunmen.
