Punjab Police ASI shoots himself near SSP’s office

Kapurthala: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of the Punjab Police allegedly shot himself with an assault rifle near the SSP’s office in the district administrative complex on Friday, police said.

SP (Investigation) Sarbjeet Rai confirmed that ASI Narinderjit Singh had committed suicide.

Officials said Singh, who was posted at police lines, snatched an assault rifle from a colleague before shooting himself.

The police have launched an investigation to determine the reason behind the incident, the SP said.
