Amit Shah meets family of Kirti Chakra awardee Humayun Bhat during Kashmir visit

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday met the wife and 20-month-old son of Kirti Chakra awardee DSP Humayun Muzamil Bhat, who was martyred while fighting terrorists in 2023. Shah met Fatima and her son Ashar at the Raj Bhavan during his ongoing three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir.

The martyred officer, who was posthumously awarded the country’s second-highest peacetime gallantry award, was among four security personnel killed in an encounter with militants on September 13 in the dense forests of Gadul village, Kokernag in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Earlier in the day, Shah visited the residence of retired IGP Ghulam Hassan Bhat, the father of the martyred DSP, in Humhama near Srinagar airport. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was also present during the visit. Sources said Shah spent around 20 minutes with the family before heading to the Raj Bhavan.

Meanwhile, security has been tightened across the Kashmir Valley for Shah’s visit. The Union minister is scheduled to review the overall security situation with top police and security force officials on Tuesday. He will also chair a separate meeting to assess the progress of ongoing development projects in the region.
