UGC Chairman M. Jagadesh Kumar retires after term marked by student-centric reforms

New Delhi: Professor M. Jagadesh Kumar has retired from his role as Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), concluding his tenure that began in February 2022.

In an official statement, the UGC extended its best wishes to Kumar for his future endeavours.

Kumar’s term was marked by several student-focused reforms aimed at reshaping higher education in India.

Before his appointment to the UGC, he served as the 12th Vice-Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) from 2016 to 2022.
