Chandigarh Police forms SIT to investigate assault on Colonel Pushpinder Singh Bath
Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Police has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the assault on Colonel Pushpinder Singh Bath, who was allegedly attacked by police officers outside Rajindra Hospital in Patiala on the intervening night of March 13 and 14.
The SIT, formed on the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, will be led by IPS officer Manjit of the AGMUT cadre. The team also includes a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and an inspector. They have been given four months to complete the investigation and submit their report.
Colonel Bath and his family had approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the matter. The court, however, handed over the case to the Chandigarh Police.
Following the incident, the victim’s family also met Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to seek justice.
