LOP Bajwa refuses to cooperate with police, action likely for withholding information on explosives: Sources
Punjab News: Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly and senior Congress leader Pratap Singh Bajwa could face strict action for allegedly refusing to cooperate with Punjab Police officials in connection with an investigation involving 32 unexploded bombs.
According to sources, police officials have been consulting with the Advocate General’s office to decide the course of legal action against Bajwa. It is being reported that Punjab Police are tightening the nose around him after his refusal to disclose the sources of his information regarding the presence of bombs in the state.
Bajwa had earlier claimed in a television interview that 50 bombs had been smuggled into Punjab from Pakistan, out of which 18 had already detonated and 32 remained unexploded. The statement sparked widespread concern about public safety and potential threats to the region.
Sources in police suggest that during an extended police inquiry, Bajwa declined to share any details about how or from whom he received such sensitive information. He allegedly refused to brief either the Punjab Police or central security agencies on the matter.
A senior official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that Bajwa’s remarks — made with full knowledge of their implications — could have created panic and posed a threat to public security. The police are now preparing for strict action against him.
Following Bajwa’s statement, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had directed the police to obtain detailed information from him. However, when Bajwa refused to comply, an FIR was lodged against him.
