Punjab Police arrests two for plotting attacks on top leaders in pro-Amritpal WhatsApp group

Chandigarh: Punjab Police have arrested two individuals linked to a WhatsApp group allegedly supporting jailed MP Amritpal Singh, which discussed plans to attack Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP MP and Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu, and Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia.
The conspiracy surfaced after screenshots of the group chat, named ‘Waris Punjab Ke Team’, were leaked on social media on Sunday, prompting swift action from security agencies. The group is believed to have over 600 members and is reportedly associated with anti-national activities.
The Cyber Crime Police Station in Moga has registered an FIR under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), and the Information Technology Act, including sections 61(2)(a), 113(3), 152, and 353 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The accused have been identified as Lakhdeep Singh of Sardargarh, Bathinda; Balkar Singh of New Model Town, Khanna; and Pawandeep Singh of village Khote, Moga. Police have arrested Balkar and Pawandeep so far.
