Gunman of minister Hardeep Singh Mundian found dead under mysterious circumstances

Chandigarh: The gunman of cabinet minister Hardeep Singh Mundian was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Rampur village near here late last night. While police are treating the case as a suicide, family members of the deceased have alleged that he was murdered.

According to family members, Gurkirat Singh Goldy had gone to the house of an acquaintance from his village at the time of the incident. They claimed that Gurkirat had a relationship with the daughter of the acquaintance.

As soon as information was received, DSP Payal Hemant Malhotra and SHO Akash Dutt reached the spot along with a forensic team. Preliminary investigations suggest that Gurkirat committed suicide, but the exact cause of death is yet to be determined, police said.

The police have recorded the family’s statement, sent the body for post-mortem, and launched an in-depth investigation.

Meanwhile, tensions flared when police began the process of moving Gurkirat Singh’s body, with family members strongly protesting and a large number of villagers gathering at the spot.

The deceased’s mother, Daljit Kaur, alleged that Gurkirat was murdered due to his relationship with the daughter of the household where his body was found. She said Gurkirat could not have committed suicide.
