Punjab government stops BBMB from releasing water from Bhakra Dam at night

Chandigarh: The Punjab government has foiled an attempt by the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) to release water from the Bhakra Dam without prior notice.
The incident occurred late last night, when the BBMB allegedly began pressuring Haryana staff stationed at the dam around 11 pm to release additional water towards Haryana.
Upon learning of the move, Punjab’s water resources department immediately intervened and issued an official communication warning BBMB against proceeding.
The government said that releasing water without prior intimation could breach the banks of the Bhakra canal at several points, posing a threat to public safety.
The department further warned that any such action could endanger lives and held the BBMB fully responsible for any consequences arising from an uncoordinated release.
