Mock drills to be held at 20 locations in Punjab amid heightened security concerns

Chandigarh: Mock drills will be conducted at 20 locations across Punjab on Wednesday in response to the Union Home Ministry’s directive following heightened tensions with Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack, officials said on Tuesday.
Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said preparations for the drills are nearly complete and they will be held in Ferozepur, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Bathinda, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Patiala, Pathankot, Barnala, and Mohali districts.
“The directions of the Ministry of Home Affairs will be followed during the mock drills,” Cheema said, adding that the exercise aims to raise public awareness and promote precautionary measures in the event of a possible attack.
The Union Home Ministry had on Monday urged all states to conduct mock drills in view of “new and complex threats” emerging across the country.
