SGPC to provide langar and shelter in gurdwaras in India and Pakistan

Amritsar: Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has stepped in to support those being evacuated from the border regions.

The SGPC, which represents the Sikh community, has directed the management of historic gurdwaras near the border to provide langar (community meals) and temporary accommodation.

SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami instructed the gurdwara authorities to make arrangements for langar and shelter for displaced civilians. “Given the developing situation, our historic gurdwaras will serve as safe havens for those affected,” he said.

SGPC Secretary Pratap Singh said instructions have been issued to gurdwaras located near sensitive areas, including Gurdwara Sri Barath Sahib (Pathankot), Gurdwara Sri Darbar Sahib (Dera Baba Nanak, Gurdaspur), Gurdwara Baba Buddha Sahib Ji (Ramdas, Amritsar), and others across Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Gurdaspur, and Muktsar Sahib districts.

Singh added that the committee is committed to ensuring that evacuees receive meals and a place to stay as long as the situation demands. Letters have been sent to managers of each gurdwara listed, urging them to follow the SGPC’s guidelines promptly.
