India and Pakistan agree to ceasefire, claims US President Trump

Washington: US President Donald Trump has claimed that India and Pakistan have agreed to a ceasefire amid escalating tensions along the border. The announcement comes after days of heavy firing, drone activity, and missile attacks reportedly initiated by Pakistan and countered by the Indian Army.

Trump’s statement follows diplomatic efforts by the US to de-escalate the situation. Earlier, Washington had urged Islamabad to reduce tensions, leading to Pakistan postponing a high-level committee meeting on the possible use of nuclear weapons.

Despite the reported ceasefire agreement, India’s military had earlier launched a well-planned retaliatory operation, targeting radar sites and weapons depots at Pakistani military bases in Rafiqui, Murid, Chaklala, Rehmayarkhan, Shukur, and Chunia.

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar had also signaled a willingness to consider reducing hostilities if India refrained from further strikes.
