SGPC consults legal experts over petition on Balwant Singh Rajoana

Amritsar: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Saturday convened a special meeting at its sub-office in Chandigarh to seek legal advice from senior advocates and former judges regarding its petition on Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana.

The meeting was chaired by SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami and included an extensive discussion on the petition. A prominent viewpoint emerged during the session, stressing that the government must not yield under pressure or withdraw the petition, but instead continue to pursue it with resolve.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Dhami said, “This is a very serious national issue for which a collective national opinion is crucial.”

He said that the SGPC has been pursuing a legal battle in this matter for a long time, but the government’s obstinacy reflects a disregard for human rights.
