Ajnala police station clash accused Vikramjit Singh arrested while trying to enter India from Nepal

Chandigarh: Punjab Police has received a major breakthrough in the 2023 Ajnala police station clash case after Vikramjit Singh, a proclaimed offender associated with ‘Waris Punjab De’, was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Police while allegedly attempting to enter India illegally through the Nepal border.

An American citizen, Manveer Singh, was also taken into custody in the operation. Police additionally arrested three other individuals accused of facilitating their illegal entry into India.

The arrests came to light after the Uttar Pradesh Police shared the information with the Amritsar Rural Police.

According to the investigation, Vikramjit Singh had been evading arrest for more than two years. During this period, he allegedly remained in hiding at various locations, including Mumbai, Rajasthan, Delhi and Udhampur, before fleeing to Kathmandu, Nepal, around a year ago.

Confirming the arrests, Uttar Pradesh Superintendent of Police Vishwajeet Srivastava said both Vikramjit Singh and Manveer Singh were detained for allegedly attempting to enter India without valid travel documents.

The SP said Manveer Singh, a US citizen, was intercepted during routine checking while allegedly trying to cross the border without a valid visa. Police said neither of the two had the documents required for lawful entry into India.

Further investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding their attempted entry and the role of those accused of assisting them.
