Vigilance Bureau arrests SDO for accepting bribe of Rs. Eight Lakh

Punjab E News (PEN News): The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), in line with the zero tolerance policy adopted by the Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann led Punjab government, has apprehended Sub Divisional Officer(SDO) Ramanjot Singh posted at Mining department, Derabassi, district SAS Nagar for accepting a bribe of Rs. Eight Lakh.

Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the state VB said the arrest has been made following a complaint lodged on the Chief Minister’s Anti Corruption Action Line portal.

He said that FIR No. 16 was registered against mining department SDO Ramanjot Singh for allegedly demanding bribe of Rs 40 lakh. Thereafter, accused SDO agreed to take bribe of Rs 19,40,000/-. Upon requesting, accused SDO accepted bribe of Rs eight lakh for not taking action against the complainant for lifting soil from his land.

According to the recordings submitted by the complainant, the allegations against the accused were found to be true, he added.

In this regard, a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused at VB Police Station Mohali.Further investigation into this case is underway, he added.
