Faridkot: Faridkot Police have arrested 10 more members of an alleged interstate racket accused of facilitating digital cheating during the Pharmacy Officer recruitment examination conducted by Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, taking the total number of arrests in the case to 37.
According to police, the latest arrests were made in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. The accused have been identified as Balwant Singh, Satnam Singh, Deepak Kumar, Manjit Singh, Sunil Kumar, Abi Ant Singh, Rajesh Kumar, Sandeep Kumar and Gurmeet Singh.
The accused were produced before the court of Area Magistrate Diljit Kaur, where police informed the court that interrogation had revealed the racket allegedly supplied digital devices to candidates to facilitate cheating during the examination.
Police further alleged that the accused charged candidates between ₹3 lakh and ₹13 lakh each in exchange for helping them cheat in the examination.
However, police told the court that there was no evidence of a paper leak, maintaining that the case involved organised cheating rather than the leakage of the question paper. They said investigations were continuing and more arrests could follow.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee and several student organisations have announced a protest outside Baba Farid University of Health Sciences on July 29 over the alleged irregularities.
Kirti Kisan Union leader Rajinder Singh Deep Singh Wala accused the Punjab government of misleading the public and alleged that the pharmacy examination paper had been leaked with the involvement of government officials. He further alleged that those responsible were being shielded and said the union’s indefinite protest outside the university would continue until action was taken against all those allegedly involved.
