Patna: Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor secured a major political victory on Monday by winning the Bankipur Assembly by-election in Bihar, defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate by a margin of 19,324 votes.
The Bankipur seat, considered a traditional BJP stronghold, fell vacant after former MLA and BJP national president Nitin Nabin was elected to the Rajya Sabha. Nabin had represented the constituency for five consecutive terms.
According to the final results, Prashant Kishor polled 64,151 votes, while BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar secured 44,827 votes.
The victory marks a significant breakthrough for Kishor and his Jan Suraaj Party, as the party wrested a seat long regarded as one of the BJP’s bastions in Bihar.
