Faridkot: The Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) and its affiliated institutions have put the appointments and promotions of around 180 officers and employees on hold until further orders.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the university’s Board of Management after Vice-Chancellor Dr Rajeev Sood completed his three-year tenure.
A letter issued by the university registrar on August 18, 2026, informed the heads of the concerned institutions about the decision. These include Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, University College of Nursing, University College of Physiotherapy, University Institute of Allied Healthcare Sciences and University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research, among others.
Review committee to examine cases
According to the letter, the Board of Management decided to suspend or defer the appointments and promotions from August 12, 2026, until further orders.
Individual notices have also been issued to the affected officers and employees, giving them an opportunity to present their cases before a review committee.
University sources said some appointments and promotions made during Dr Sood’s tenure had become controversial. However, employees had reportedly been informed in writing at the time of their appointments or promotions that the final decision would be subject to approval by the Board of Management.
The concerned institutions have now been directed to ensure compliance with the board’s decision. A final decision on the appointments and promotions will be taken after the review committee completes its process.
