Kanpur: A trainee pilot and an instructor were killed after a training aircraft crashed near the banks of the Ganga in Kanpur on Thursday.
Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal said the Tecnam aircraft, operated by Garg Aviation, took off at around 11:30 am and crashed approximately 20 minutes later.
The victims were identified as instructor Sachin Bhatia from Gujarat and trainee pilot Abhishek Pujari from Karnataka. The aircraft, manufactured in Italy, crashed near Nathapurwa village in the Katri area.
According to police, Bhatia had around 3,000 hours of flying experience.
DGCA to investigate
The incident has been reported to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). A DGCA team is expected to reach the crash site and conduct a detailed investigation.
The exact cause of the crash has not yet been established. Investigators will determine whether it was caused by a technical fault, weather conditions or another factor.
Police and administrative officials have inspected the crash site, while technical aspects related to the aircraft are also being examined.
