Says, over 76,000 arrests made during 551-day drive; now 500-member team to reach every village and ward in final phase
Phillaur News (Pawan Dhupar): Punjab New & Renewable Energy Resources, Printing & Stationery, Good Governance & Information Technology, Employment Generation & Training, Industries & Commerce and Investment Promotion Minister Aman Arora on Friday termed Yudh Nashian Virudh a decisive war against drugs in Punjab, with more than 76,000 arrests made during the 551-day drive.
Addressing over 500 members of the Yudh Nashian Virudh team gathered at the Punjab Police Academy, Phillaur, from across the state, Mr. Arora said the campaign had done a remarkable job in tackling the drug menace by breaking the backbone of the drug network in the state.
Congratulating the team members for their hard work, the Cabinet Minister said those involved in drug trafficking and those patronising drug smugglers were now afraid of strict action and were abstaining from the “nefarious act”. He said only a government with a firm resolve could have taken such decisive action against drugs, adding that the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann had demonstrated its determination to combat drug abuse.
Mr. Arora said it was unfortunate that leaders of ruling parties in the past had been directly involved in the drug network, pushing Punjab into the grip of drugs. However, he said, the present government had adopted a tough stance against the menace with the aim of freeing Punjab from drug abuse and making it Rangla Punjab once again.
The Minister said Yudh Nashian Virudh was now entering its final stage. During the next one month, more than 500 team members would visit every village and ward to interact with residents and discuss the progress made in the fight against the drug menace.
He said the mass outreach campaign would serve as the final nail in the coffin of drug abuse by generating awareness among people at the grassroots level and further strengthening public participation in the ongoing drive.
Prominent amongst others present on the occasion included Nasha Mukti Morcha State Ovserver Ashit Kumar, Doaba Coordinator Atin Agnihotri, Dinesh Suri, Pushpindar Chahal along with district coordinators from several districts.
