Former Haryana minister’s son allegedly dies by suicide at farmhouse near Rupnagar

Rupnagar: Gaganjot Sandhu, son of former Haryana agriculture minister and four-time Pehowa MLA Jaswinder Singh Sandhu, allegedly died by suicide after shooting himself at his farmhouse in Pakhrali village near Rupnagar on Friday.

According to sources, Gaganjot had reached the farmhouse in the morning and was alone when the incident occurred. Personnel from the Rupnagar Sadar police station reached the spot after receiving information and began an investigation. A forensic team was also called to examine the scene and collect evidence.

The body was sent to the government hospital in Rupnagar, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted on Saturday. Rupnagar Sadar SHO Sunny Khanna said the matter was under investigation and further details would emerge as the probe progresses.

Gaganjot had served twice as sarpanch of Gumthala Garhu village in Kurukshetra district.

His father, Jaswinder Singh Sandhu, was a prominent Haryana politician who represented the Pehowa Assembly constituency four times and served as agriculture minister in the government led by then chief minister Om Prakash Chautala.

Jaswinder Singh Sandhu died of liver cancer in 2019.

Police have not disclosed any information about the circumstances or possible reason behind Gaganjot’s death. Further details are awaited.
