Sangrur: The Congress has launched a ‘Main Bhi Gulzar’ (I am also Gulzar) social media campaign in support of the family of deceased Dalit daily-wage worker Gulzar Singh, who died in Sangrur.
Congress leaders said the campaign aims to support the family in its ongoing fight for justice and put pressure on the Punjab government to act against those whose names have been linked to Gulzar Singh’s death.
Former MP Vijay Inder Singla said the campaign was intended to build public support and press the government to take action against all those allegedly connected with the case.
Singla said the family had alleged that the district administration and police forced them to conduct Gulzar Singh’s cremation hastily and without following the customary rituals. The allegation has not been independently established.
He appealed to people across Punjab to join the campaign by using the ‘Main Bhi Gulzar’ DP on their social media accounts.
“We have launched the ‘Main Bhi Gulzar’ DP campaign in support of the family of late Gulzar Singh. We have appealed to people in Sangrur and other parts of Punjab to post the DP on their social media handles and join this collective initiative,” Singla said.
He added that the campaign was aimed at showing solidarity with the family and conveying that it was not alone in its fight for justice.
